Hello dear friends,
In line with our policy of clarity and openness, and because we believe BKA stakeholders should be aware of the general financial position of the corporate identity they support, as should Australian taxpayers
who also support the religion, we publish annually,in brief, the latest financials from the BKA corporate world thanks to the
Australian Charities and Not-for- profit Commission.
BKA is listed as a Large Charity by the ACNC, meaning the charity has an annual income in excess of $1,000,000.00
Brahma Kumaris Centres for Spiritual Learning ( Brahma Kumaris Australia) ACN 132 195 683.
Freehold land and buildings:$26,585,000*
*Note: BKA property assets were revalued upwards in 2016 from $21,720,00 to $26,585,000: up nearly $5,000,000.
Cash at Bank: $1,972,696
Unsecured loan: $1,825,265*
*Note: 'Unsecured loans are interest free loans with no repayment period'. These are not donations as such, but the loan makers, for whatever reason, perhaps tax advantage, prefer
to make their financial assistance to BKA by perhaps 'parking' funds in this way. Unsecured loans in previous years have been - 2013: $791,296, 2014:$639,296, 2015:$2,528,000.
BKA have repaid $300,000 of their $515,492 ANZ bank loan, allied to BKA Fivedock premeses. This loan was made for a 5 year period, posssibly to gain some borrowing credibility. We note that BKA and its allied Gift Fund
hold tax exempt status.
Net profit of $109,000 is down from previous years as a percentage of overall income.
Although this year the item below appears to have been judiciously deleted from its report, we understand that, as in previous years, on the basis that money given to God should not contribute towards the karma of
His children...
Donations made to other charities or for public welfare :$0.00.
However, we understand that 'good vibrations' are definitely donated from time to time to the less fortunate and less enlightened in Australia and around the world through World Meditation Hour.
We note that in June 2016 the redoubtable Ms Amanda Quinn resigned from the BKA board. In December 2016, Ms Maureen Chen joined Dr Nirmala Kajaria, Mr Charlie Hogg, Ms Silvana Dimech-Conti, Mr Rajahram Padmanabhan,
Mr Chakrapani Ogoti and Ms Sally Segal on the BKA board. We congratulate the BKA Board on managing BKA financial matters, though are concerned about some BKA ethical matters, as noted on this site. The BKA board also constitutes almost the entire membership
of BKA. Every other BK stakeholder is simply a 'member of the public'.This makes it difficult, if not impossible, for BKA stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to policy, or to have management appreciate stakeholder concerns. However,if you do have any queries
about BKA matters, they should be addressed to board.secretariat@au.brahmakumaris.org
Brahma Kumaris Australia have recently added a whole new level of admin, with a whole bunch of new departments, to help resolution of concerns and take some of the weight
off the board. We wrote about a concern to a new department head a month ago: no response yet as per custom...
We would also encourage the board to be less 'poverty conscious' in its appeals to the faithful, and to ensure that BK stakeholders do not put themselves and their families at financial risk by donating over generously.
A concept promoted by Brahma Kumaris is that giving generously now, will assure the donor of many births of heavenly wealth in the soon to be arriving Golden Age, but this belief needs to be carefully weighed against present realities. We note that after
we posted this message last year, Dr Nirmala Kajaria has endorsed our position, though still appealing to BKs to
'surrender everything'' their 'body,
mind and wealth' (see below)++
Brahma Kumaris core teachings advise: "It is better to die than to ask for money", so there is evidently a spiritual subtlety at work here.😥
Friends, we do suggest you download the full 2016 Financial Report of
'Brahma Kumaris Centres for Spiritual Learning' (Brahma Kumaris Australia) free at the ACNC website :www.acnc.gov.au.
In conclusion, we understand that discussions are continuing between local council and BKA regarding occupancy of the BKA Fivedock premeses.++FIVEDOCK
